I strongly encourage everyone to order books from scholastic. I will send home forms monthly, but the books can also be found online using the following link: Scholastic Book OrderThe classroom code is NC9FF. Please note that in order to earn reward points, the book orders will be due about 5 days before the end of each month.

Spelling - Every Monday, we will learn a spelling lesson. After the lesson, students will be required to complete that lesson's corresponding pages in the practice book by that Thursday. They will also have to write out each word three times. We will review on Thursdays, followed by a test, for which I will simply read the words aloud and have the students write them on a sheet of looseleaf paper. If a student gets a 75 or below on a spelling test, he or she must write out the incorrect words 3 times each.

Vocabulary - Every Mondays, we also will work on a unit from the Vocabulary Workshop book. After the unit, the students will be responsible for completing the pages in the Vocabulary Workshop book by that Friday. In their Spelling/Vocabulary copybook, they must write out each word three times, broken into syllables, with the appropriate accent marks. Finally, students must write all of the synonyms and antonyms for each word, making sure to underline the vocabulary words with a ruler and red pen. Unless scores start slipping, students are no longer required to write out the definitions for each word. We will review on Fridays, followed by a test. The test will consist of the following: definitions, synonyms, antonyms, and analogies (the syllable/accent portion of the test has been eliminated). There will be a word bank.

Grammar - On Wednesdays, immediately before learning a grammar lesson, we will have a diagramming quiz, which we will review for the week prior. There typically will be five sentences written on the board, which the students must diagram on a sheet of looseleaf paper. We will work from the Voyages in English book everyday. We will also complete a block of maintenance sheets at the beginning of each class.
